Use The Schwartz
That being said, I decided to make this hat for Monkey:

I’ve been working on this hat for the past few weeks and the end is in sight. I’m not entirely sure, at this point, how much use the child will get out of it since toddler heads are huge and tend to grow at a frightening rate - but it will look cute for the five minutes (and five hundred pictures) that he wears it.
So here is my progress thus far:

I’ve never knit a hat in the round - seeing as I’m a self-taught knitter so when I found a pattern for the hat here, it was as if Schwartz himself were saying “I TRIPLE dog dare you.”
And I’m never one to pass up a dare.
Time to Make the Doughnuts
Start by putting about 2” of cooking oil in a large saucepan and heat it to approximately 300 degrees.
On to doughnut construction..
I usually use 2 packages of buttermilk biscuit dough - the regular size, not the “grand”.

Take each biscuit and make a hole in the middle with your thumb. Work the dough into a general doughnut shape and set aside.

Put the dough in the pan one at a time and keep a close eye on it. These babies brown FAST. Flip as soon as you see the edge start to brown.

Rescue that little bit of brown yumminess from the oil and let recover on a nice towel (paper) - lined plate while you cook up his brothers and sisters.

In a bowl, mix together about a 1/4 cup of sugar and a tablespoon of cinnamon. Swirl it together and get ready to make these doughnuts downright sinful.

MORE! MORE! MORE!
Dredge each of our little doughnut friends through the cinnamon sugar mix and then pop them in your mouth pass them out to the drooling children waiting on the side of the counter.

Oooooh - just begging to be dunked in a mug of steamin’ hot joe.
....or fed to 2 very hungry boys.
She's Crafty
I spent some time last night talking about ReadyMade magazine. For those of you not “in the know”, ReadyMade is kind of a kitschy do-it-yourselfer’s magazine with some pretty cool projects and profiles of artists you wouldn’t normally happen upon.
They also have some great eco-friendly projects and recently profiled the guy who started TerraCycle.
Anyway, after I got home from this session, I was all wound up thinking about what projects that would be cool to see and/or do.
We have another month before school starts back up (I’m SO counting the days) so I need to find a couple of kid-friendly projects.
In the meantime, I want to refinish/repurpose this piece of furniture. So put on your thinking caps and give me some ideas....

Aprons, How I Love Thee...

I LOVE aprons! Have I mentioned that before? I dare say I haven’t...how sad.
So I recently discovered this AMAZING blog - The Apronista. And she is GIVING AWAY an apron! Every self-respecting cook needs at least one good apron. I, myself, have many...and one of these days I’m going to wear them out of the house.
Go here to enter the apron giveaway and tie one on with me!

New Project

I decided I want one of these tops...
I discovered the Sew, Mama, Sew blog and have been adding project after project to my list. But with the flowers popping and sun shining, I decided to move this cute little number to the top of my list.
Want to make one too? Go here for the awesome tutorial on how to make your own Spring Ruffle Top.
When you’re done, share a picture!
